One of the things that my daughter, Tara enjoys is flying the drone that she got as a Christmas present. She practiced for the longest time inside and got really good at flying it around.

She was ready to give it a try outside and let's just say it didn't go as well as she hoped. It went up in the air, the wind picked up and it ended up three houses away. We were glad that it didn't land four houses over because that's where the "grumpy" lady lives. That's not my or Tara's term but the neighbor to the "grumpy" lady's house.

Maybe what Tara needs is flying lessons but I didn't think there was such a thing...until now. It's not for drones but I think this is better. The Aero Guidance Society (AGS) is having radio-controlled plane pilot training classes in July and August. They have "Open House Tuesdays" and ALL AGES ARE WELCOME!

Learn to fly your own plane or a club owned trainer with experienced flight instructors. It runs every Tuesday evening (weather permitting) from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in July and August.

You can learn to become a radio-controlled plane pilot at their Model Airport, 147 Warrick Road in Endicott. The entrance is off Day Hollow Road, just 3 1/2 miles from Rt. 26. Look for their roadside sign
