Governor Cuomo Offers to Pay Manufacturers to Produce Med. Supplies
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is continuing to appeal for supplies to battle the coronavirus with personal protection equipment and ventilators gravely needed.
Cuomo says there is no such thing as a New York Defense Production Act that he can use to compel companies to switch production to masks, gloves, gowns and ventilators as the Federal Act can.
The Governor appealed to businesses to help. He said: “If you are a manufacturer who can convert to make these products and make them quickly… If you have the capacity to make these products, we will purchase them and we will pay a premium, and we will pay to convert or transition your manufacturing facility to a facility that can do this but we need it, like, now.”
Companies can contact the Empire State Development Corporation. The number for the main office is (212) 803-3100. The Southern Tier Region Binghamton office number is (607) 721-8605.
