A major project will close a section of a heavily-traveled roadway linking Binghamton's West Side with the First Ward for several weeks.

Glenwood Avenue from Clinton Street to Brown Street will be out of service starting Monday, March 2.

The closure will allow crews to work on the reconstruction of the storm water pumping station underneath the railroad viaduct.

While vehicles won't be able to use Glenwood Avenue, pedestrians will be able to use the sidewalk on the east side of the street while the project is underway.

The project calls for the removal of the existing pumping equipment. Precast concrete structures will be installed for new pumps and valves. New discharge piping and electrical equipment also will be put in, along with curve and pavement work.

The target completion date for the job is May 22. The work will be performed by Vacri Construction Corporation of Binghamton.

State funding will cover the cost of the project.
