Forecasters: Barry to Come In Barreling

Batten down the hatches, here comes Barry. But seriously, if you’ve got delicate plants in planters outdoors that you don’t want to be pummeled by heavy rains, you might want to move them to a covered area.

Remnants of the storm that forecasters have dubbed ‘Tropical Storm Barry’ are set to hit Central New York late Tuesday night and may bring flooding rain. According to the National Weather Service, Central New York is expected to experience thunderstorms and heavy rain midweek, especially Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night.

With temperatures expected to reach near 90 in Central New York on Tuesday, you might think that the rain rolling in with Barry on Wednesday would provide some cooling relief, but that won’t be the case. The National Weather Service is reporting that thunderstorms Tuesday night into Thursday morning could be capable of producing torrential downpours and that the heat and humidity will only continue to build. As a matter of fact, Friday is expected to be the hottest day of the week with heat indexes of 95 to 105 across Central New York.
