Just because we've had to switch up our lives a lot in 2020, it doesn't mean that people suffering from food insecurity need any less help, and it also doesn't mean that Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) is any less busy trying to help them.
An estimated 34,000 people in Broome County are food insecure. CHOW helps them, and we can all help CHOW.
That's right, Food-A-Bago 2020 is here.
From November 2-9, your favorite on-air personalities from 98.1 The Hawk, 99.1 The Whale, Kiss 104.1, News Radio 1290 WNBF, and CBS Sports 1360 Binghamton will be at the Weis Market on Upper Front Street in Binghamton Monday-Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Monday, November 9 from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. It's all made possible by Planning With Purpose, GHS Federal Credit Union, 21st Century Pools and Spas, Gary's U-Pull It, and Oliver's Camping Inc.
Our radio personalities will be accepting your non-perishable food donations as well as cash and check donations (please make checks payable to Music For The Mission). For each dollar you donate, CHOW can turn that into five complete meals. So, if you were to donate $5, CHOW could turn that into 25 complete meals, $25 would mean 125 complete meals. When we say that CHOW is able to stretch a dollar, we aren't kidding.
With COVID-19 still a concern in our area, we kindly ask everyone showing up to donate to wear a mask, and we'll also have social distancing procedures to keep ourselves and you safe.
During a typical year, CHOW distributes more than 175,000 pounds of food each month in our area. That amount has more than tripled in 2020 thanks to the COVID pandemic.
In 2019, with your help, we were able to raise:
- $10,000 in cash donations providing 50,000 meals
- 23,000 pounds of non-perishable food was donated providing 20,000
- A total of 70,000 meals!
Who wants to help out the community?! Get ready to make this year's Food-A-Bago event the best ever!
