Several fire departments battled a blaze at a residence in Chenango Bridge Friday afternoon.

The fire on Davis Road was reported shortly before 2 p.m.

Firefighters initially were concerned at least one person was trapped inside the burning two-family house. But reports from the scene indicated authorities believed anyone who had been in the residence made it out safely.

Two dogs which had been inside were uninjured.

The fast-moving blaze generated a large amount of smoke, which was visible for miles.

About 20 minutes after the first firefighters arrived, all crews were ordered to evacuate the burning structure.
