Did you know that some emojis are going extinct? Well, according to a recent report by Superside, a few emojis that were once all the rage are now on the brink of disappearing, especially in New York.

Take the 💘 'heart with arrow' emoji, for example. Once a mainstay in text messages and social media posts, it has seen a big decline across New York since 2013. It's not the only one feeling the heat, though. The 💁 'information desk person' emoji, while holding some influence in New York, is also losing its charm with users.

It's not just New York feeling the emoji extinction wave. In fact, the 😜 'winking face with tongue' emoji has the title of the most unpopular emoji. The 😏 'smirking face' emoji is also facing the possibility of going extinct in many cities, with only a few exceptions.

Now, let’s talk about the top 14 most endangered emojis worldwide. The ‘okay hand’ emoji 👌 has taken the lead as the most unpopular emoji in the world, dropping an incredible 66 places in its popularity ranking since 2013.

The 😳 ‘flushed face’ and 🙌 ‘person raising both hands in celebration’ emojis are close behind. The rise of newer emojis and the unfortunate association of some emojis with hate groups seem to be the force behind the downfall of these once-beloved icons.
