Downtown Binghamton Parking Garage Nearing Completion

Construction workers are busy putting the finishing touches on a long-awaited municipal parking ramp in downtown Binghamton.

Crews from William H. Lane Incorporated, the general contractor, started work at the city-owned site at Hawley and Washington streets in late March.

The $10 million garage will provide about 300 parking spaces when it opens.

Precast concrete sections of the structure were trucked to Binghamton from the Unistress Corporation plant in Pittsfield, Massachusetts during the summer.

Mayor Richard David said plans for the project called for more concrete to be added as the garage was being erected.

Windows have been installed around the stairwell sections of the structure. Additional electrical and elevator work still must be done inside the garage.

The mayor has said he expects the facility will be open before the end of the year. He said he's aware of no major construction issues that have resulted in delaying the completion of the project.
