The IRS says people should be on the lookout for calls and emails asking to verify personal information to get your tax refund or the CARES Act “stimulus” money back faster.

One clue is anything saying “stimulus.”  The official term for the federal rescue money is “economic impact payment.”

Sheriff DuMond says the IRS is not going to call and ask someone to verify their financial information, people won’t receive surprise emails, text messages and social media messages from the IRS.  He cautions people not to open or click on any attachments or open any links that residents may receive from a source that appears to be from the IRS.
