Crayola's recent trademark of the iconic scent of its crayons has sparked a mixed reaction among New Yorkers. According to a report by Financial Post, Crayola's CEO, Pete Ruggiero, envisions a future where the familiar waxy aroma of crayons fills the aisles of stores, triggering nostalgic memories and encouraging more purchases. The trademark for the scent, described as "slightly earthy soap with pungent, leather-like clay undertones," has been in the works since 2018 and was recently approved after an appeal.

We asked nearly two dozen New Yorkers their thoughts on a crayon-smelling scent that people would wear. Almost everyone expressed reservations about the idea of a crayon-scented cologne. While the scent of crayons may evoke fond memories of childhood art projects and school days for some, most everyone said they find the concept unappealing and even off-putting.

Despite Crayola's intention to capitalize on the emotional connection between scent and memory, it remains to be seen whether New Yorkers will embrace the idea of a crayon-scented cologne or reject it as a novelty that misses the mark. At this point, all signs point to the latter.
