During regular media briefings, Garnar has sounded the alarm for months about the costs of dealing with the coronavirus, little of which is being covered through federal government assistance.

The majority of expenses in the County are programs and service that are mandated by New York State but are not funded.  Garnar has said Broome has been lucky to maintain a fund balance over the past couple budgets but that money is still needed in case of future unforeseen challenges.

The County Executive says he is, however, looking forward “to presenting another solid budget, one that protects our county taxpayers and maintains the services that we all depend on” in 2021.
