The Binghamton Police and Fire Departments, and the Endicott Police and Fire Departments are “squaring off” at two American Red Cross Battle of the Badges blood drives this Thursday, July 16th.

“All of these departments work together to make our communities safe and the Binghamton Police Department is up for the challenge of helping save lives by a simple act of donating blood,” said Training Officer Robert Charpinsky, Binghamton Police Department in a press release. Firefighter Chris Mallery of the Binghamton Fire Department said,  “We are proud to support the American Red Cross and help patients in need, especially this summer when blood donations decline and we encourage all families to join us.”

This is the first time that the police and fire departments have ever faced off to see who can bring in the most blood donations for the American Red Cross and you're invited to be part of the event. Whether you're a residents of Binghamton or Endicott, you can show your support for our hometown heroes and save some lives by giving blood this Thursday.

The departments that win the friendly battles will earn bragging rights until next year and will also receive a plaque. A plaque will also be awarded to Binghamton or Endicott, which ever municipality collects the most blood donations over their goal on July 16th.

“Helping save lives—that’s what police officers and firefighters do every single day and giving blood to ensure a stable blood supply is available this summer is just another way our department is giving back,” said Chief Michael Cox, Endicott Police Department.  “All of us are honored to be a part of this friendly challenge that will ultimately help those in need and we invite all residents from Endicott to come out and support us,” said Chief Joseph Griswold, Endicott Fire Department.

Anyone who donates blood will receive a free Red Cross t-shirt, while supplies last. You can make your donation at either of these two locations:
