Whether you're out of work or have a job, but are miserable, the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce is hosting a free job fair at the SUNY Broome Ice Center on Friday June 19th from 10am-3pm.

With over 35 businesses on hand. why would you not want to at least give it a try? If you need a little motivation to get yourself there, here are 5 reasons.

  • 1

Meet company reps who are normally hard to reach

Not all, but some companies will send people who actually do have an impact on hiring decisions and these are people to whom access would normally be blocked at their corporate reception desk.

  • 2

    Get out of the house

Let's face it- it's become super easy to just job search in your pajamas from your computer and because it's so easy, we sometimes forget that face to face meetings can have a much more powerful impact.

  • 3

    Build your self-confidence

If you meet with company reps who will eventually invite you to their business for an interview, think of how much easier it will be to sit across a desk from them if you've already broken the ice by meeting them in an informal setting!

    Network

We live in a world where most social networking is done by our fingertips, but face to face networking is the best when it comes to a job search. And it's not just company reps you should network with. This is your chance to network with other job seekers. You can share tips with each other and keep an eye out for jobs the other person might be interested in.  And who knows? You might even create a friendship or two!

    Get resume feedback

If you're not sure if your resume is up to par, use this as an opportunity to ask a company rep to take a peek at it and offer advice. Of course, don't do this if the booth is swarmed with people. Better to wait for a lull. Let the rep know you value their opinion and ask if they'd take a minute to give you feedback. Then take that feedback and use it to make a better resume.
