The 30th anniversary Southern Tier Heart Walk is scheduled for Sunday, April 7 on the campus of SUNY Broome. The event begins and ends at the SUNY Broome Ice Center. The goal for this year's walk is to raise $300,000. Preparations for the walk got underway with a "Heart Walk Happy Hour" that was held last week at the Holiday Inn Downtown in Binghamton.

Kathy Connerton, President and CEO of Lourdes, part of Ascension, is the 2019 Heart Walk Chairperson. In her remarks to kick off the walk planning and preparation Connerton said " Heart disease is our number one killer and stroke is number five. So many of us are touched by these deadly diseases and by the research and programs funded by the American Heart Association to fight them. Money raised at the Heart Walk helps save lives and make our community healthier."

The American Heart Association (AHA) is looking for walkers and teams of walkers to take part in the 30th Anniversary Southern Tier Heart Walk. In addition area businesses are urged to support the event by organizing employees to walk or contribute to the fund-raiser. Numerous business were represented at the Kick Off gathering.
