September is National Suicide Awareness Month and the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier (MHAST) is doing their part to raise awareness. They are offering Youth Mental Health First Aid on Wednesday, September 12th and Mental First Aid training on Thursday, September 13th at a reduced price. Find out more here.

They are also having their fourth annual Wings of Hope Walk at Dorchester Park in Whitney Point on Saturday, September 15th. You can register on-site beginning at 11 a.m. at the South Pavilion and the walk will begin at noon with a release of butterflies.

The highlight of the event is the Remembrance Garden where walkers can make and place painted rocks honoring the memory of loved ones. There will be a candle and shrine area to remember those who have passed.

During the event, there will be refreshments, speakers, music and poetry performances, also several area agencies will have information on services available in our community.

You can pre-register here for a suggested donation of $25 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under. Proceeds will benefit the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier.
