Back in 1983, a couple of families got together and argued over who had the best Spiedie recipe in Binghamton. And so was born Spiedie Fest.

If you don’t know what they are, Spiedies are small pieces of marinated meat (lamb, chicken, pork or beef) that can be skewered and then grilled. When I moved away from Binghamton a little more than 10 years ago, I'd do everything I could to come back and stock up on Spiedie sauce, but at one point I was living in the Midwest and couldn't just hop in my car and get here in a reasonable amount of time, so I started experimenting with making my own sauce.

My friends really liked the sauce that I came up with so I thought I'd give competing in the Celebrity Spiedie Fest Cook-Off a try at this year's Spiedie Fest on Sunday August 4th at 1pm.  Am I nervous?  You bet!  I'm just a normal girl trying to wow judges with my humble recipe. No pressure or anything.

The 2013 Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally will take place on August 2nd from 2pm to dusk, Saturday August 3rd from 6am to dusk and Sunday August 4th from 6am to dusk at Otsiningo Park in Binghamton. Proceeds will benefit local community charities and buttons are selling out REALLY fast.

So many people have ordered buttons from out of the area and local button sales are through the roof and I've been told by organizers that there’s a really good chance that buttons may sell out by Monday (July 29th).  So if you’re thinking about going this year, get to Weis or Cost Cutters and get your buttons before it’s too late!
