People served by the Whitney Point public water system are being encouraged to take conservation measures.

Village officials September 21 issued an appeal for voluntary water conservation because of the lack of significant rainfall in recent weeks.

Wells which feed the Whitney Point water system are getting low because of the prolonged dry spell.

Officials are urging residents to save as much water as possible. People are advised to reconsider high-volume water uses such as watering lawns or gardens, washing vehicles or filling swimming pools.

If the dry weather persists, officials say the village board may consider further action to ensure water supplies are sufficient.

Whitney Point residents with questions about the conservation request may contact the village office at 607.692.4907.
