Things are looking up for the Almost-Annual New York State Crappie Derby for Saturday, February 14th.

An ice thickness reading was taken yesterday on Whitney Point Lake by Dorchester Park personnel and it shows 11 1/2 inches of ice.

Next Monday morning, February 9th, an official measurement will be taken and the ice quantity evaluated by Broome County Parks & Recreation.  If the ice is deemed safe for the expected crowd, a "GO" will be given to the Whitney Point Sportsmen's Association to conduct this years' event.

I love this event.  I have my fingers crossed.  Visit CrappieDerby.com for more.
