Anyone who tells you that line dancing is a thing of the past hasn’t been to a country concert, a wedding or a Binghamton bar with a dance floor lately.  The dance form that gained popularity in the early days of the Hawk and into the early 90's, has had a big resurgence in the Southern Tier and across the country.

Sure, songs like Boot Scootin' Boogie, Any Man of Mine and Watermelon Crawl seemed like they were made for country line dancing, but that was back then at Rick's Day Hollow Inn and Touch of Texas.  Remember them?

Fast forward to 2016 and there is a whole new playlist of danceable hits to dance to, including hits by Sam Hunt, Luke Bryan and Florida Georgia Line!

If you're a first time learner, you are looking for a fun workout or you need to polish up on your dance steps, there are a few places in the Southern Tier that can help you look and feel good on the dance floor.

Magic City Music Hall -  Since reopening in the Northgate Plaza on Upper Front Street in Binghamton, this popular music venue has been bringing in an impressive list of all genres of music, including country.  In fact, Saturday nights are known as country night.  But to prepare you for the dance floor, Magic City offers country line dance lessons for $5 every Wednesday night at 6:30. Just bring your boots and prepare to have a good time!

American Legion - you may have taken lessons at the Endicott American Legion on Riverview Drive in the past.  I remember going to a couple myself in the 90's.  Also on Wednesday nights, the line dancing classes begin with an open dance from 5-6pm, followed by different levels of teaching including beginners from 7-7:30pm, Intermediate lessons from 7:30-8pm and an open dance for all from 8-9pm.  Word has it instructor Mary Jo Leonard is awesome.

I'm sure there are other bars and clubs that offer line dancing in the Southern Tier.  If I missed one, please let me know and I will share the information with our listeners and readers.
