New Jersey waitress decided to pick up the check for two firefighters, and that one single random act of kindness ended up coming back tenfold.

Liz Woodward was working at a diner when she overheard two firefighters talking about a how they'd had a rough overnight shift and a warehouse fire that took them 12 hours to get under control.

Feeling for the men, Liz paid for their breakfast and left them a note thanking them for their service.

The firefighters, Paul Hulling and Tim Young, shared a picture of the note on Facebook, and as you can imagine, it was quickly shared thousands of times, and then something absolutely incredible happened.

The firefighters learned that Liz’s dad had suffered a brain aneurysm in 2010 that left him a quadriplegic and bed-ridden and they found out that the family really needed a special van to help with his transportation.

"Turns out, the young lady who gave us a free meal is really the one that could use the help," Young posted on Facebook, along with a link to a GoFundMe page for Liz's dad, Steve.

The story of Liz’s kind act and the firefighters’ response to her kindness has touched the hearts of a lot of people, because more than $64,000 has been raised.
