Keli Cooper and the folks from Wendy's have been doing the Wendy's Walk for Kids event at the Dicks Sporting goods Open for several years now.  On Wednesday, they received some national attention.

Every year, the Champions Tour recognizes the Charity of the year.  Well congratulations, the Wendy's Walk for Kids was named the 2012 PGA Champions Tour Charity of the year.  The Wendy's Walk for Kids happens on the final day of the Dick's Sporting Goods Open every year. During the final round, walkers walk a marked out path at the Dick's Sporting Goods Open and it ends with them walking up the 18th green as the final group of the tournament makes its way to the final hole.

It's a one day event but the fundraising goes on all year long. They have golf tournaments and special days at various Wendy's Restaurants. Keli Cooper is the organizer for the Wendy's Walk for Kid's. She was presented a $30,000 check for winning the Charity of the year.  She thanked the community for all their hard work.  She also said that it's an award for the community. In 2009 it started with 150 walkers and made over 40,000. Last year, it was 700 walkers raising over 190,000 dollars.  The money goes to 4 local charities that benefit the kids in the area.

This year's Wendy's Walk for Kids will be Sunday, August 18th during the final round of the Dick's Sporting Goods Open.  If you want to find out more about the Wendy's Walk for Kids go to www.wendyswalkforkids.com.  Congrats once again to Keli and the entire organization for their endless hard work for this great cause.  One last reminder to the group, if you need a no-talent golf hack as a fourth, for one of your charity golf tournaments, you know how to reach me.
