Starting in the Spring 2015 semester, the University of Pennsylvania (which is an Ivy League school) will offer a creative writing course called “Wasting Time on the Internet,” where students will browse websites for three hours on their laptops, phones, and tablets.

Apparently the whole point of this class will be to determine why we spend so much time on popular websites and the effect it is having on our brains.

Kenneth Goldsmith is the professor running the class and isn't judgmental. He says browsing the web shouldn't be looked down on even though we seem to browse with no goal in mind.

Goldsmith thinks differently than most because he believes the Internet is making us smarter, not dumber. And, despite its crude nature, he thinks there is poetry and historical value to be found in comments, forum posts, and social media chats.

Anyone else hear future grads muttering this: "I majored in wasting time on the internet. Who wants to hire me?"
