This year instead of the Wendy's Walk for Kids, it'll be the Walk to Defeat ALS at the DICK'S Sporting Goods Open. It'll still be the final event on Sunday. This year it'll be July 10th.

They are having to be kick-off today (May 17th). They'll announce that Richard Osborne to serve as Honorary PALS (Person with ALS) at this year's Walk.

The ALS Association Upstate New York Chapter chose him as this year's becuse he is a great advocate for the cause and an encouraging ally to those in the fight with him.

Everyone knows someone that has been affected by ALS. It's a disease that doesn't discriminate, it can affect anyone. It also helps put things into proper perspective.

The things that you thought matter, just aren't nearly as important as you thought. You'd trade just about anything to take it away from them.

Richard's family knows this as well. He said "It's been very difficult for our family to try and come to terms wit this new challenge but I said yes to the offer because someone has to do something. There is so much to be done and I want to do my part to bring awareness to the cause."

The kick-off is at PS Restaurant on Rano Blvd in Vestal beginning at 6PM. The Walk is on July 10th at En-Joie beginning at 5pm and ends walking down the 18th green behind the final group.
