I find the hard bristle brushes and do the circles the up and down and the back and forth. Then I brush the crap out of my tongue and that's it rinse, BUT NOW, some dentist says you're doing it wrong, and apparently we have been our whole lives.  Who is this guy anyway -- oh wait. He's a dentist. Welp, here's what the good chomper doctor has to say:

His name is Dr. Matthew Lloyd, and he is a dentist somewhere in England. Who is gonna argue with him with  that accent anyway? He says you floss first, to get the food and all that moving out of there, then you have to rinse the stuff out. You should use your mouthwash fo this and lastly... brush your teeth.

The doctor told GoodToKnow, "It's better to remove plaque and food debris with floss before rinsing the bacteria away with mouth wash. Ideally, you should finish your oral care routine by brushing your teeth. That way, the toothpaste says in contact with your teeth and gums for longer and will provide better protection."
