The Ely Park Golf Course in Binghamton has sustained thousands of dollars in damage as a result of two vandalism incidents in less than three weeks.

The operator of the course has posted a $1,000 reward after two greens were damaged sometime June 9-10.

Eduardo Matesanz, who operates Ely Park under an agreement with the city, said the vandals could have done some of the damage to the course by hand or using a gardening tool.

Matesanz said the first vandalism incident occurred on May 23. He said vandals have caused minor damage to the golf course in past years but nothing on the scale of the two recent cases.

Binghamton police investigators say people with information about the vandalism may contact the detective bureau at 607.772.7080.
