There's something serious going on I81 near Whitney Point right now. I have received reports that there has been helicopters and 20 plus 1st responders, 2 coroners, multiple Sheriff and State Troopers, the Broome County Command Bus and police in full tactical gear.

Apparently there is crime scene tape across the highway at this time. Investigators are asking two off duty police if they are O.K. and Sheriff Harder is on scene. News Radio 1290 has gained information that the police have someone in custody at this time.

I will keep you as updated as I can.

UPDATE

1:52 pm - There was an accident on I81 and the suspect fled the scene. The suspect is in custody and now the police have to land the helicopter on the highway.

2:06 pm - Local news friends have informed me that a Kirkwood New York State Trooper may have been killed in this incident.

2:14 pm - Reports of a truck run way up on the highways side field area, and a tarp covering what is presumed to be a body in the field.

2:17 pm - WBNG has posted: "

Broome County Sheriff's Deputies on the scene said a gray Nissan Altima, and an Orange Pontiac Aztec were hit by a white truck. The white truck then fled the scene, according to deputies. The Nissan was a rental car.

An Action News reporter on the scene reported two helicopters responded.

Interstate 81 northbound traffic will be diverted off of exit 6 to U.S. Route 11 northbound and back on I-81 at exit 7.

9:00 pm - Sixty year old Almond Upton of Melrose, Florida was tge man who intentionally struck Trooper Christopher Skinner on the highway today. Almond Upton was  arraigned in Town of Chenango Court on one count of Murder in the 1st degree.
