Authorities say the workers fell outside a building at the Owego Gardens project at 130 Southside Drive on Tuesday.

Village Police Chief Karen Vinti said the incident was reported at 2:13 p.m.

Vinti said the men were working on the second-floor porch when it gave way. She said one of the workers sustained lacerations to the left side of his face. The other worker had a four-inch-long laceration to a leg.

The men were conscious and talking when they were transported from the scene to the hospital for treatment.

The police chief said it was not clear what caused the collapse. She said a supervisor indicated the porch may have been hit by a piece of equipment. She said it also was possible that the weight of the men along with buckets of construction material were responsible.

Construction work began on the $12.5 million senior housing project late last year. The 62-unit complex is being developed by Home Leasing of Rochester. The first residents are expected to be able to move in early next year.
