Forecasters in the Twin Tiers are keeping a close eye on an evolving weather pattern that has the potential to impact Thanksgiving holiday travel.

The National Weather Service in Binghamton says there is a potential for significant snow along and east of the Interstate 81 and Interstate 88 corridors in New York with lesser amounts to the northwest, but many variables remain in tracking the storm.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is calling for holiday travelers to make “flexibility” their primary word.

PennDOT says motorists should be aware of a potential for winter road conditions and be prepared to change travel plans.

Department of transportation crews across the state are monitoring forecasts and expect to extend crew shifts to have 24-hour coverage, working through the holiday to clear any accumulating snow.

PennDOT says drivers should make sure their vehicle is in good shape and have an emergency kit that includes non-perishable food, water, first aid supplies, warm clothes, a cell phone charger and small snow shovel.  Travelers taking medications should make sure they have a supply of their prescriptions with them as well.
