It's time you add some spice to your life or more specifically, spice to your diet which in turn, should add to your life.  The spice that is the spotlight is turmeric and it's something that has multiple benefits.

If you're familiar with turmeric, it may be because you already eat Indian food.  The gold colored herb is also found in many Middle Eastern and South Asian recipes.  According to the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, Turmeric contains curcumin, which has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumor, antibacterial, and antiviral properties.

I have read a number of research reports that claim, that taking turmeric can be as beneficial or more beneficial than taking a multi-vitamin.  In fact, I take mine in capsule form and usually two a day because of all the benefits it brings, including possibly preventing Alzheimer's Disease, something my Mom died from. But I also love Indian food which is rich in this herb.

Rodale Wellness lists a number of other benefits of taking turmeric:

  • Acne - Take ground turmeric that you find in the spice section of the grocery store and blend with water or yogurt to make in to a paste and apply to those prone areas.
  • Arthritis -- Turmeric is said to work better than glucosamine on joint pain.
  • Diabetes, cancer, Lyme disease, general pain and PMS have also been aided by increasing intake of turmeric.
