I told Traci that today is Pi day. She said that her favorite is "Chocolate Mousse....Wrong Pie.  Today is the annual celebration commemorating the mathematical constant pi, 3.141592653 etc.

Pi Day is observed on March 14 (3/14). Did you know that Albert Einstein was born on Pi day, 3/14 1879.  Next year Pi Day will have special significance. 3/14/15 at 9:26:53 am and pm represents the first 10 digits of Pi. I sound so geeky.....I kind of like it.

The earliest known official or big time celebration of Pi Day was by Larry Shaw in 1988 at the San Francisco Exploratorium. Shaw worked as a physicist there. He would have the staff and public march around one of its circular spaces and have them eat fruit pies.

The Exploratorium continues to hold Pi Day celebrations today. On March 12, 2009, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a non-binding resolution recognizing March 14, 2009 as National Pi Day.

Here's a couple of Pi jokes to tell at the office or around the table today.

  1. What do you get when you cut a jack o’lantern by its diameter?… Pumpkin Pi.
  2. What do you get when you take green cheese and divide its circumference by its diameter?… Moon Pi.
  3. What do you get when you take the sun and divide its circumference by its diameter?…Pi in the sky.

I didn't say that they were gonna be good. Since we're talking about dates of significance, here's another one for you.

Sunday is 3/16. I'm calling it John 3:16 day. It says:For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. I think I like that day better.
