NYSEG repair crews were pressed into service again as powerful thunderstorms raced through the region and caused some power outages.

About 700 utility customers in Apalachin lost electric service late Tuesday afternoon after a tree reportedly fell and took down some wires.

A NYSEG crew was working on Binghamton's West Side Wednesday morning to replace lines that were brought down by a tree. A section of Davis Street between Millard Avenue and Chestnut Street was closed while the repairs were being made.

About two-dozen customers in Broome, Chenango and Delaware counties had no electric service as of 7:15 a.m.

More widespread outages were reported in western New York. The utility said nearly 3,500 customers in Erie County were without power following the storms.
