Thousands of sex offenders are poised to be dropped from New York Sate's public registry in 2016. The question has been raised, "Will the communities children still be safe?"

The state law in question, put into use in 1996, states that level one sex offenders will remain on the registry for 20 years. At the end of 2016, the location of thousands of these sex offenders will longer be public knowledge.

Now, level one sex offenders in the eyes of the government will be the least likely to do the crime twice, as the 1st time around their offenses were the worst. All of which include: Forcible touching, sexual misconduct, various levels of rape."

The problem lies in the fact that, when their names come off the registry, even the police will have no idea of there location. Which means they are able to rent houses, apartments and all living quarters anywhere they want. Which could be near schools, day cares, playgrounds... You get the idea, they're no longer required to update their address with officials. As a matter of fact they are no longer required to update any information pertaining to their their personal lives. Which means they can apply for employment at  schools, day cares, any employment near children.

Some parents and concerned individuals have stepped forward to request a change to the law for safety's sake.  What do you think?

Have they served their time and dealt with the embarrassment for long enough?

Or should they remain on the list for life, with restrictions in living arrangements and employment for the safety of our children?
