Thomas Rhett brought a whole lot of soul and emotion to the stage of the 2016 ACM Awards on Sunday night (April 3) in Las Vegas, performing his hit, "Die a Happy Man."

He brought all the sentiment he had to the stage as he sang the track, which was dedicated to his beautiful wife, Lauren. The way she eyed him during his performance melted all of our hearts. Out of all the fans in the arena, it was as if he was singing just to her.

He took center stage with his guitar to sing the ballad. In his bright red pants, he looked like a natural on stage and his voice followed suit. He made it seem almost effortless as he smoothly hit every note.

"Die A Happy Man" won recognition for Single Record of the Year earlier in the evening's broadcast.

The singer's most recent album, Tangled Up, features a strong R&B and soul influence, and Rhett's soulful voice and dance moves have helped make him into one of the most popular young live performers in country music today.

"Die a Happy Man" was the second single from the project, and it reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, where it stayed for weeks. “Die a Happy Man” was certified Platinum in late December and became his fifth consecutive No. 1.

It's a song that's especially close to Rhett's heart, since it was inspired by Lauren, whom he has know since they were in school together.

“I’ve written love songs but never to the extent of that personal,” he tells Taste of Country. “We strictly wrote that song about me and my wife’s relationship.”

He adds, “I just think this song shows how me and Lauren love each other, and I hope this song is an encouragement to other married couples or people that are dating.”

Rhett was a triple nominee at the 2016 ACMs; he was nominated for New Male Vocalist, Album and Single Record of the Year, and walked away the winner of Single Record.
