Today, July 17, is World Emoji Day!

We all know what Emoji’s are. They’re those cute little images that we use whether we are texting, posting to instagram or facebook, even just as a means to express ourselves.

By the dictionary’s definition an Emoji is defined as: “a small digital image or icon used to express an idea, emotion, etc., in electronic communication.”

But did you know that Emoji’s were actually created in 1998 by Shigetaka Kurita, an engineer at the Japanese phone company, NTT Docomo.

And since then they have become a worldwide phenomenon so big that Reviews.org decided to conduct a study on which emojis was each state’s favorite.

To my surprise (And maybe yours) the most popular Emoji in New York State is… 🙈🙈🙈also known as “the see-no-evil” monkey!

According to the findings, New York was the ONLY state to have 🙈🙈🙈 as their favorite Emoji! The report states that: ‘New York using this emoji is a classic example of a cultural meaning taking over intended use. This emoji is called ‘See-No-Evil Monkey,’ and not ‘I can’t believe this cute/amazing thing just happened—I have to hide.’ Who knew.”

The most popular used Emoji overall turned out to be the "heart eyes" or 😍😍😍 Emoji. It's popularity spanned across 8 states which included Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Oregon, Utah, and Wisconsin.
