The world was so different when I was a kid in the 80's. I mean SO different. Here are a couple things that will take you on a trip back to your childhood that were totally normal in the 80's, but are inconceivable when it comes to kids today:Sitting in the middle seat in the front of the car: Seat belts and booster seats weren't even on the radar. When I was brought home from the hospital, I was placed in a banana box filled with blankets on the floor of the car. And if you ever got to sit in the front seat in between mom and dad, then you know that it was the most awesome spot in the car!

Using SPF 4 as sunblock: Not too many parents slathered sunscreen on their kids before a day at the lake or the beach, but if your parents did, it was probably SPF 4. SPF 4 was serious protection when most people were putting baby oil on their skin and basically cooking in the sun.

Helmet? What helmet? Back in the '80s we'd just hop on our bike and skateboard and take off. Helmets and pads? There was no such thing.

Leaving kids in the car while you ran into the store real quick: What? The window was cracked and if you were like my mom, you told your kids to look after each other and they did.

Being allowed to run free in the neighborhood until dinner time without checking in: Once school was out we roamed free without parental supervision or phones, and parents wouldn't even bat an eye about it! But let me tell you this, if we weren't home in time for dinner, you would pay. Everyone in the neighborhood knew it too because mom made sure to yell for us, loudly!

Walking to school: It was totally acceptable to send a kindergartner off to school by themselves. That's what crossing guards were for!
