Tioga County businessman Calvin Harris has been acquitted in his fourth murder trial following the 2001 disappearance of his estranged wife, Michele.

Judge Richard Mott announced the "not guilty" verdict Tuesday afternoon in Schoharie County Court.

Harris had been convicted of murder twice by juries in Tioga County. Those verdicts were thrown out upon appeal. A third trial last year in Schoharie County ended when jurors were unable to reach a verdict.

Michele Harris vanished in September 2001. State police spent years investigating her disappearance before arresting Calvin Harris in 2005 and charging him with murder.
