Truth Pharm is one of the charity partners that will benefit from the proceeds from the Fall 2016 Binghamton Restaurant Week. The other is CHOW.  While everyone should be aware of the great work the Community Hunger Outreach Warehouse (CHOW) does here in the Southern Tier, the important work of Truth Pharm may be less known.

With addiction a serious problem in the United States and specifically in the Greater Binghamton area, Truth Pharm works very hard to raise awareness and reduce the stigma associated with substance use disorders, and advocating for policy change to improve treatment options. That may be easier said than done.

With the surge in overdoses in Broome County alone, Truth Pharm raises hope for those facing addiction to prescription drugs and other drugs like heroin and meth.  While non-users have have a perception of who the users are, the truth is the users are people you work, know and love everyday.  Many times family and friends are unaware.

It's thanks to work of Truth Pharm that communities like ours are beginning to be proactive and progressive in their approach to face the heroin and opioid epidemic. According to their terrific website, the staff at Truth Pharm works "with the community to identify their needs, assets, create a series of events and also empower the community to start their own community action groups." The goal is to "leave a community with lasting change and resources."
