Can you believe it, Christmas is about a month and a half away.  Stores around the Southern Tier have taken down the pumpkins and October decor in favor of trees, lights and lots of snoopy, Elsa, Anna and Olaf.  Bargain shoppers traditionally seek out bargains the day after Thanksgiving but this year, it's a slightly different story.

According to Adobe, deals generally start the Monday before Thanksgiving, so if you want to get a jump on shopping, go right ahead. Thanksgiving Day has the best deals, with Black Friday coming next, and prices increasing through Cyber Monday.

This year, you may want to buy certain items earlier than Thanksgiving weekend to not only save more money but to save yourself from the stress of having items not be in stock.  When the items return to store shelves, the prices will be generally higher unless you can find a raincheck, but fewer stores are doing rainchecks this year.

Electronics:  The best time to buy electronics and save up to 18% is the week before Thanksgiving.

Toys:  The best time to buy toys is said to be Cyber Monday but you may want to consider buying now or before thanksgiving as the popular toys tend to sell out by Black Friday.

Jewelry:  Thanksgiving weekend is the best time to get your jewelry savings.  As the days and weeks get closer to tree-unwrapping-time, so do the out-of-stock notices.

Clothing:  If you want to save a bunch of clothing, the longer you wait the better.  You will find clothing prices the lowest on December 23rd.

Don't forget to try to shop local whenever possible.  Small Business Saturday is November 28th.  When you break away from the chains and shopping on line, you help keep local businesses alive and the money will stay in the community rather than line the pockets of out-of-town corporations.
