A 2nd grade teacher named Brandy Young sent home a letter to her students parents last week, and my gosh is it going viral! Why? She's not assigning any homework this year,  because she claims that there is still no proof that doing homework helps kids do any better in school.  She also said that spending more quality time with their family might work better.  Here's the letter:

"After much research this summer, I am trying something new.  Homework will only consist of work that your student did not finish during the school day. Research has been unable to prove that homework improves student performance.  [So] I ask that you spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success."

Then she went on to list things they should be doing instead, like eating dinner as a family, reading together, playing outside, and making sure their kids go to bed early and get a good night's sleep. One student's mom posted the entire letter on Facebook, and said her daughter is really excited about the new policy, and it looks like a few other teachers in their district are going to give it a shot as well.
