One of the most recent student housing projects in the City of Binghamton is being handed tax breaks in spite of the objections of city leaders.

The Agency, formerly the Broome County Industrial Development Agency, has voted for a ten year Payment In Lieu of Taxes, or PILOT agreement for the Printing House apartments in what used to be the Press Building on Chenango Street.

The building that housed several offices and other businesses prior to a huge fire at the Midtown Mall, which severely damaged the structure, is being developed by Chenango Empire into 94 luxury apartments.

Binghamton Mayor Richard David’s office has objected to the PILOT agreement citing the saturation of luxury student housing already in downtown Binghamton.
