More than a dozen SUNY Broome students received word that they are heading to SUNY Cobleskill April 15th to present their selected research projects for the SUNY Undergratuate Research Conference or SURC.

According to SUNY Broome Executive Vice President and Chief Academic Officer Francis Battisti, "having our students invited to this event demonstrates their commitment to a quality education."

The one project that caught my attention is a 30 minute documentary called "In the Lyme Light," that focuses on the causes and impact of the tick-borne disease, which has become an endemic in the Greater Binghamton area. I have a good friend who's mom is going through a possible Lyme diagnosis.  This should be an eye opener for many in our area.

Another informative project on display deals with the importance of hand washing to prevent the spread of disease called "Keep Calm and Wash Your Hands."  Many think that this is a problem only in the cold and flu season but it's a fact year round.

The public is invited to see these projects before they leave for the SURC, at a Common Hour event Thursday April 14th from 11-11:50am in Titchener Hall Room 207 on the SUNY Broome campus.
