Do you ever feel like your brain has turned to complete mush by the time you've been working for six hours? I totally feel the brain burn around that many hours, too!

So many new studies are coming out about how to increase productivity in the workplace and virtually every single one that I've seen suggests that employees might be burning out because of the number of days and hours they're working. And, we all know what happens when people starting having mental burnouts. Yep. All sorts of disasters in the workplace.

However, there's a trend with the work studies I've read. All of them have come out of other countries. America is like "work longer, harder, faster and 24/7, oh yeah and for no additional pay" while other countries are loosening up on their employees.

A study that was funded by the Swedish government discovered that when employees put in a six hour workday instead of an eight hour day, they weren't just happier and healthier, but they were way more productive on the job.

There aren't many people more stressed than those who work in the medical field and so it's interesting that the study followed a group of nurses who work at a retirement home. The nurses started working a six hour shift instead of an eight hour shift- for the same amount of pay- they didn't get docked.

Researchers found that the nurses called in sick less and took less time off than those who worked a “regular” shift. The nurses were also 20% happier overall and their participation in activities with residents increased by an astounding 64%.
