Stranger Gives 16-Year-Old a Kidney

One mom in New York state made an incredible sacrifice for a teen that she's never even met.

PIX11 News of New York City introduced their viewers to a 16-year-old boy named Mike Dell Orso last December with the hope that someone would see his story and be inspired to donate an organ to save his life. It worked.

After watching the news story, Andrea Battista said she was moved to share her kidney with a complete stranger.

Battista is a mom to two kids and a former teacher and says she was inspired to step up because she lost a nephew at a young age to cancer and wanted to do something to help another young person.  Battista and Dell Orso underwent successful surgeries last month and are recovering.

Once Dell Orso has healed and is given the clear by his doctors, he'll be able to do something he hasn’t done in two long years while on dialysis … go to school full time. Something that no doubt makes Battista just as happy as knowing she helped to save the life of a young man.
