I've been a basketball referee for over 25 years and for the past 20 years, we have an end of the season basketball tournament. It's the Southern Tier Basketball Officials' Association Annual Stars & Stripes Classic at Davis College.

It's a chance for the best Section IV basketball talent to show off their stuff in an informal and fun atmosphere. It's a way for us to give something back to our community and we want to help promote and showcase our local high school basketball talent.

We invite college basketball coaches to attend the tournament and athletes and coaches can connect for recruiting purposes.

This is also a great chance for us as officials to develop rapport between players, coaches and officials with this friendly competition. Contrary to what some might think, the officials are not against you.

Both boys and girls participate in this wonderful event and it begins tonight (3/19) with the Girls Semifinals when Precision Automotive go against Tri-Town Insurance at 6 p.m. Leonard Bus and Gallagher Baker, PC will end the night with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

On Wednesday (3/20), it's the Boys Semifinals when Battisti & Garzo take on Peak Performance at 6 p.m. The Smile Designers and Burger King round out the evening beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Girls consolation and final games are to be played on Thursday (3/21) at 6 and 7:30 p.m. with the Boys playing the consolation and finals on Friday (3/22) in the same time slot.

I'll be announcing the Girl's Semi's tonight and officiating the 6 p.m. game tomorrow. I hope to see you there and I'd like to thank all the officials who volunteer their time and for their effort.

It's a great basketball event that you don't want to miss and it's a chance to see our local athletes in action at Davis College, 400 Riverside in Johnson City.
