The soap world lost one of their iconic favorites and The Young & The Restless may never be the same.

Soap fans across the Southern Tier remember Wilma "Jeanne" Cooper, who passed away today at 84, following a brief illness from an infection.  Known to the world as Mrs. Catherine Chancellor, a role that she loved since the premiere of The Young & The Restless in 1973.

40 Years later, people in the Greater Binghamton area recall some of her greatest moments, including being presumed dead from a fire in 1979, another presumed death in 2008 from a car accident and a televised operation of her real face lift in the 1980's. This could happen only in the soap world.

I remember coming home from classes at Fredonia University and there would be more guys watching soaps than ladies. The Young & The Restless is still one of television's top daytime soaps.

Jeanne Cooper will be remembered for her love of animals and her support of many humane societies, the National Wildlife Federation and her support for children's cancer research.
