New York State Police are warning merchants in The Southern Tier and Central New York that fake $100 bills have been circulating.

Investigators say the bogus Benjamins have been passed in Delaware and Otsego Counties.

Authorities say typically, a customer makes a small purchase using the counterfeit money in order to get close to $100 back in real change

State Police say if a suspicious person is seen attempting to make payment with $100 bills, the business should contact their local police immediately.
