More precipitation is expected for our area and, for better or worse, it’s not in the form of rain.

While the region was flirting with temperatures near 80 only a few days ago, the National Weather Service in Binghamton advises it will be turning much colder Wednesday evening, October 17 into Thursday, October 18, with rain showers changing to snow showers over the higher terrain by Wednesday evening.

Forecasters say all areas will have a chance for snow showers or flurries late Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Light accumulations up to one inch is possible over higher terrain. Wind chills could drop into the low-to-mid 20s Wednesday night. The National Weather Service says high temperatures may only reach 40 to 45 degrees October 18.

Colder temperatures and snow, of course, should be expected for the region in mid-October and the mid-week forecast should not result in a run on bread and milk at area groceries stores just yet.
