As a kid who grew up pretty poor, this makes my heart swell with happiness. I remember the few times that someone slipped me a couple dollars so I could pick out a Christmas present for my mom. Sometimes it was a scarf, sometimes it was a bar of nice soap. Small gifts, really but it meant the world to be able to give something to her.

The Chenango County Law Enforcement Association (CCLEA) is doing something very special for a group of local kids this Christmas- something they won't soon forget, just as I didn't.

A group of precious little ones were selected by each school district in Chenango County to spend the morning with a Chenango County Sheriff's Office Road Patrol Deputy this Saturday, December 12th, at Walmart in Norwich to shop for Christmas presents for those they love.

Not only will these kids be teamed up with a Deputy, but they'll be given money to shop- money that was raised by the CCLEA. The money was raised through donations from local businesses, individuals and each Deputy.

The CCLEA hopes to make 'Shop with a Sheriff' an annual event that will grow each year. This definitely has the ability to touch and possibly even heal little hearts, but it won't be possible to continue without support from good people. If you'd like to make a donation to help "Shop with a Sheriff" continue next year and in years to come, reach out to Gary Miller, Narcotics Detective at the Chenango County Sheriffs Office at 607-337-1935.
