My family went out to dinner a few months after our son was born and our waitress was a former educator who had extensive experience in early childhood development. She told us that the best thing we could do for our son when we weren't working with him ourselves, was to let him watch episodes of 'Sesame Street' every once in a while.

I don't know where the woman we spoke to got her information, but she told us that in her experience, little ones who watched 'Sesame Street' had a better understanding of letters and numbers than kids who didn't watch the show at all.

So many of us grew up learning about letters, numbers, and basic life skills by watching 'Sesame Street' and there was quite an uproar when it was announced last week that three longtime cast members, Bob, Luis and Gordon were "let go" from the show.

Apparently our voices and frustrations were heard because show producers are backpedaling and have apologized for how things were handled and say that the three cast members could end up making a return.

In a statement, Sesame Workshop CEO Jeffrey D. Dunn called Bob, Luis and Gordon "a key part of the Sesame family" and apologized for the "misunderstandings" about their roles.  "In our latest season, the story lines written did not include appearances by these three actors and we certainly could have done a better job of communicating with them about our ongoing episode plans."

Roscoe Orman who plays Gordon said that, after the public spoke out about the cast members being let go, "producers of Sesame Street have reached out to us with an expressed desire to continue our longstanding relationship, to be initiated with a meeting in September."

It'll be interesting to see where this goes and if the three return to the show.
