See the Sneakers Expected to Sell for $30,000 at Auction
I remember when I was a pre-teen/teen in the 90s and couldn’t for the life of me comprehend why so many women who were older than me were obsessed with the 80s. The lace gloves, neon shirts, the wild and poofy hair, the music- I just didn’t get it.
Now I do. I get it because my 37-year-old self is just as obsessed with the 90s as the women just a bit older than me were and still are with the 80s.
I’ve been waiting nearly 20 years for this time to come- for the world to embrace the awesomeness that is the 1990s. I’ve been waiting for the return of 90s sounding music, unbuttoned shirts over graphic tees, and the “The Rachel” haircut to make a comeback. And now, my wait is over.
Take for instance the vintage Apple sneakers from the 1990s which recently went up for auction with a starting bid of $15,000.
I love Apple as much as the next person (I mean, how else would I have been able to play Oregon Trail?) but $15,000 for a pair of sneakers? Yes, I get that they’re limited edition and were made exclusively for employees of Apple, but still- yikes or as Joey would have said, “Woah!” According to the Heritage Auctions auction listing, these sneakers are estimated to carry a value of $30,000.
If you have a longing in your heart for the 90s, wear a size 9.5 (the listing doesn’t specify whether the shoes are men’s or women’s) and have a ton of spare cash laying around, this might be just what you’ve been looking for. But act fast because this auction end at 8am CST on Monday, June 26th. Oh, and at last check, the buy now price was $18, 750.
